TASER® C2, X26C AND M26C FAQ

IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT WHEN WE USE THE TERM “TASER®” WE REFER TO THE TASER® C2, X26C AND THE TASER M26C, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.

What is a TASER® device and how does it work?

A TASER® device is a compact, lightweight, non-lethal self-defense device similar to any other gun. Instead of firing bullets, however, these non lethal weapons use compressed nitrogen to shoot out two electrode barbs (each one attached to insulated conductive wires) into an assailant up to 15 feet away (4.5 meters), at a speed of 135 feet per second. The fired barbs will attach to the assailant's skin or clothes, immediately delivering (through the TASER® device’s wires) a high voltage/low amperage electrical discharge that will affect the attacker’s neuromuscular system (these self defense weapons’ energy can even penetrate up to two cumulative inches of clothing).

The would-be aggressor’s muscles will inevitably contract until he is in a fetal position on the ground, thanks to the new Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) Technology. Even the most aggressive and focused criminals will be stopped by your TASER® unit’s 50,000 volts, even those under the influence of drugs (no permanent harm done). This will give you (or your loved ones) plenty of time to escape, effectively saving your life, your well-being and your belongings.

TASER® devices also double as powerful stun guns, both before and after the barbs has been fired. In that case, you must press the unit against the attacker’s skin or clothes and push the fire button. Used as a stun gun, your TASER® device will deliver an strong electrical discharge that will stun or even knock out your attacker. He/she will experience disorientation, confusion, loss of balance, and inability to move efficiently for a few minutes afterwards (with no significant or permanent harm done). Thanks to this, you (and your loved ones) will get the needed time to escape.

All TASER® devices comes with Laser Sight (which provices precision accuracy: the laser sight will reflect a red beam on your adversary, increasing your chances of successfully hitting the target), a trigger’s safety cover (to prevent accidental discharge), an integrated LED light system (to improve the target's visibility in dark places), one Training (blue) Cartridge, one or more Live Cartridges and many other important features (which may very depending on the specific kit you choose: Basic, Gold or Platinum Kits; please refer to the “TASER® C2”, “TASER® X26C” and “TASER® M26C” sections to see each model's individual features).

What is the Anti-Felon Identification System?

All TASER® devices are designed with an Anti-Felon Identification system, a protective measure that is meant to discourage anyone from buying these units for purposes other than lawful self defense activities. As part of this protection system, these non lethal weapons are digitally locked during shipment and will not function until a FREE secure identification and background check is completed by the owner of the unit, via internet or an 1-800 number (provided). Once everything is in order, your TASER® device will discharge 20-30 serialized paper tags when fired. This tags will enable police officers to contact TASER International to get the name of the owner of the TASER® unit, to make sure it was used by a responsible citizen in a lawful manner, exclusively for self-defense purposes. This measure is meant to protect responsible citizens like you from the potential misuse of TASER® weapons by some irresponsible others.

Do TASER® devices really work?

Yes, they do. In fact, TASER® devices have proven to have a higher instant incapacitation rate than a 9mm hand gun, according to police studies.

The reason for these self defense weapons' effectiveness lies on the disruption they can create on the neuromuscular system of the attacker. These devices don’t rely on pain for results: they rely on Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology. EMD weapons are designed to provide a high voltage/low amperage electrical discharge that will completely override any opponent’s central nervous system, taking direct control over his skeletal muscles. The criminal will immediately fall to the ground in a fetal position, his muscles contracting involuntarily. All that muscle contraction will deplete his/her blood sugar levels by converting them to lactic acid, thus he will be physically debilitated and unable to function properly (regardless of his pain tolerance or mental focus). He will be incapacitated for a few minutes afterwards, without any permanent harm done.

What is Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) Technology? What does it have to do with the TASER® devices being so effective, despite the fact that they operate with less volts than traditional stun guns?

TASER® devices use a different technology than that used by stun gun devices: TASER® devices use Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD). EMD relies more on Neuromuscular Incapacitation (NMI). Instead of affecting just the nervous system’s sensory nerves, TASER® units will affect both the sensory and the motor nerves at the same time. Rather than simply interfering with communication between the brain and muscles, these devices’ EMD systems directly tell the muscles what to do: contract until the target is in the fetal position on the ground. That’s why TASER® weapons are so effective, despite the fact that they operate on just 50,000 volts (which is a lot less than most stun guns’ volts). Because of this, TASER® devices will help you dominate any attacker, including drug addicts.

Why are TASER® devices necessary?

Even with today’s relatively low crime rates, the average American has an 80% chance of becoming the victim of a violent crime over the course of a lifetime. Anyone (men and women alike) can potentially become a victim of robbery, assault, rape, kidnapping, carjacking, domestic violence, and even murder, among many other forms of crime.

No matter how well police officers or our family protectors do their jobs, they can’t always be around every time the need arises. Trouble usually arrives when you (or your loved ones) least expect it. So it is a very bright idea to have a reliable self-defense device for those cases when danger must be faced alone. Chances are that you or a loved one might be outweighed, outsized, and out-muscled by your opponent, so a non-lethal weapon will be needed to provide the necessary edge to survive. TASER® devices are an extremely important part of an effective self-defense strategy.

How do you use a TASER C2?

Each TASER C2 comes with a training DVD, so you will be shown exactly how to use your new self-defense device, in a detailed and graphic manner. In this section, however, we’ll introduce you to an equally detailed description on how to use this non lethal weapons.

TASER® devices are very easy to use. When you find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation, have your TASER® unit out in your hand (always be prepared). If a stranger approaches you, open the trigger’s safety cover (designed to prevent accidental discharge). Doing this will automatically activate an integrated LED light system that will illuminate the surrounding areas, improving visibility just in case you are in a dark place. Your TASER® device will also automatically activate a laser sight to show you exactly where you are aiming at (maximizing your chances of successfully hitting the target). If threatened, just push the fire button, and the TASER® device will do the rest. You will be able to corroborate the incredible (but non-lethal) take down power of this non lethal weapon on the aggressor.

Your next step is to get to a safe place and call the police. If you want to, you may choose to leave your TASER® unit behind, with its electrodes still attached to the attacker. It will continue working on its own, providing short electrical discharges every few seconds (to keep the aggressor incapacitated while you escape). You’re NOT going to lose the money invested in your TASER® device if you do this. These devices come with a LIFETIME REPLACEMENT GUARANTEE: TASER International (the product’s manufacturer) will replace your unit free of charge, as long as you provide a copy of the police report documenting the incident. But you don't have to do that if you don’t want to. Another option would be to wait until the assailant is incapacitated, then turn the TASER® unit off and remove the electrodes’ cartridge, leaving the electrodes still connected to the attacker while you run for help (once used, the electrodes’ cartridge won't work anymore and must be replaced, anyways). That way you can take your TASER® weapon with you.

TASER® devices also double as powerful stun guns both before and after the barbs has been fired (in that case, you must press the unit against the attacker’ skin or clothing and push the fire button). You can continue using your TASER® device (as a stun gun) as many times as necessary, as long as the batteries keep working.

How far away from the attacker can I be when using a TASER® device?

As these self defense weapons work by expelling electrode barbs using compressed nitrogen (and then administering the shock through a thin, flexible wire), these devices can incapacitate and assailant from as far as 15 feet away. This allows you a safe distance to protect yourself and your loved ones from ANY aggressor.

The optimum firing distance is between 7-10 feet (2.2-3m), though. The reason for this is that the probes should land on the attacker’s body with at least a 6-inches (15cm) spread between them for optimum performance (the electricity passes through that part of the body between the barbs). Though greater distances between you and the attacker may decrease the chances of the probes landing 6 inches apart from each other, your TASER® device will still be effective.

TASER® units also doubles as a powerful stun guns both before and after firing the electrode barbs. In that case, the electrodes must be held directly against the attacker’s body (skin or clothing) while pressing the electricity button.

On which part of the attacker’s body should I use the TASER® device?

When fired, the electrodes’ discharge will work efficiently on any part of the attacker’s body, as long as the two probes are attached to clothing or skin (TASER® devices' energy can even penetrate up to two cumulative inches of clothing). However, unless operator safety dictates otherwise, you should avoid firing toward the criminal’s face, throat or groin.

If by any chance you miss the target, remember that you can use your TASER® device as a contact stun gun. In those cases, the electrical shock will be most effective when applied to highly effective targets such as the upper shoulders, the upper hip and below the rib cage. According to TASER International, if you really need to go for maximum effects areas, you may go for the criminal’s brachial plexus tie-in (upper chest), radial (forearm), common peronial (outside of thigh) and tibia (calf muscle). You may also go for the carotids (sides of the neck) and the pelvic triangle, but you should take GREAT care not to push the stun gun forcefully in those areas, specially because they are sensitive to mechanical injuries (for instance, crushing to the trachea or testicles). Remember that your goal is lawful self-defense, without becoming an attacker yourself.

How long should I use the TASER® device on the attacker?

These non lethal weapons comes with a preprogrammed sequence that consists of an initial shock that lasts for several seconds, which is followed by various short electrical discharges (automatically applied every few seconds) to keep the assailant incapacitated while you escape. Because the TASER® device will continue working on its own after successfully hitting the target, you may choose to leave the unit behind (with its electrode barbs still attached to the attacker) if you want to maximize your chances of escaping safely.

You won't lose the money invested in your TASER® weapon if you do this. These devices come with a LIFETIME REPLACEMENT GUARANTEE: TASER International (the product’s manufacturer) will replace your unit free of charge, as long as you provide a copy of the police report documenting the incident.

However, there is a debate between those who think that the device should be left behind (still incapacitating the assailant), and those who argue that it may be dangerous for the aggressor if you do so. Many experts think that prolonged or continuous exposure to the TASER® devices' electrical discharge may lead to some medical risks (for the criminal), such as cumulative exhaustion and breathing impairment. Others argue that that won’t happen. Although the truth is that there is not a definitive answer on who is right or wrong to this date, the evidence seems to favor the non-lethality of TASER® devices in at least the vast majority of cases (see the FAQ “Can a TASER® device kill somebody?” in this page for more details).

However, if you want to make sure that the outcome won‘t be too extreme for the attacker (who was trying to harm you or even kill you in the first place, as you must remember) , you may still choose to use your TASER® device on the attacker, wait until he/she is really incapacitated, and then turn your unit off and disconnect the cartridge. You can leave the wires and the electrodes behind, still attached to the assailant (once used, they won't work anymore and must be replaced, anyways). But make sure that the attacker is really incapacitated before you do this, so he will not have any chances of recovering too soon and going after you again (if you make a mistake on this, you may still use your TASER® weapon as a potent stun gun, anyways). Take your TASER® unit with you and run for help. And don’t forget to call the police to report the incident immediately.

Which option is best for you (leaving the functioning TASER® unit behind, still attached to the assailant, or disconnecting the device after a successful self-defense) depends on your own personal decision and your evaluation of the risks involved in any specific situation. We invite you to visualize beforehand what your decision would be in a number of varied situations. That way you'll be able to make better and quicker decisions if a real situation shows up. We do believe in the right of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their loved ones once attacked (without any provocation whatsoever on their part). It is NOT logical to let someone harm you (or a loved one) without asserting your rights to defend yourself. In the worst case scenario, a TASER® device is a less lethal and more reliable way of protecting your life and that of your loved ones, specially when compared to traditional (bullets) guns, knives and even baseball bats.

On the other hand, if you use your TASER® weapon as a stun gun, the amount of time you use to apply the electrical discharge will determine the specific results you will get. For instance, if you use the unit’s stun gun for half a second, the attacker will be startled by a painful jolt (although most attackers may react instinctively with fear and may try to escape, applying the electric discharge for half a second is not usually recommended: Other criminals may become angry instead of fearful, and may intensify the attack). If used for one or two seconds, muscle spasms should be the result, and the attacker will become dazed. And if used for more than three consecutive seconds (which we recommend), the attacker will become disoriented and may lose muscle control, leaving him/her too weak to move. He/she will temporarily be unable to do anything.

Because most criminals will instinctively struggle to separate from the TASER® device (when used as a stun gun device), it may be necessary to aggressively drive the front of the unit into the subject for maximum effects. But don’t hesitate to do this, for in as little as 3 seconds the aggressor will be lying on the floor while you (and your loved ones) will be on your way to a safe place.

How many times can I fire the TASER® device if I’m attacked?

TASER® devices can only be fired once in a given situation. However, your non lethal weapon will be able to fire again from a distance when recharged with another probes’ cartridge (we recommend always carrying spare cartridges with you).

But you can still use your TASER® device as a potent stun gun if you need to continue defensive action immediately (TASER® units can also be used as a stun gun before firing the barbs). In that case, you must hold your non lethal weapon directly against the attacker’s body while pressing the electricity button. You can continue using your TASER® device (as a stun gun) as many times as necessary, as long as the batteries keep working.

Will I receive a shock if I touch the attacker while using the TASER® device?

No. The electrical current provided by the TASER® device will be absorbed in the attacker’s muscles, and even if he/she is holding you, the current will not pass to you.

What are the chances of the attacker taking the TASER® device away from me and using it against me?

You must keep in mind that ANY weapon can be taken away from you and used against you (even a traditional gun). While there’s always the possibility of an attacker taking the TASER® unit away from you and using it against you as well, the fact that the defense is initiated by you, plus the TASER® device's effectiveness, greatly decreases the chances of that happening. Remember that these non lethal weapons allow you to keep a maximum distance of 15 feet between you and the would-be aggressor. And the TASER® device can even be used as a potent stun gun if the assailant gets too close to you. Rest assured that the most probable outcome will be a successful self defense.

On the other hand, if someone gets to take a weapon away from you someday, you would certainly prefer that weapon to be a non-lethal one (like a TASER® device) and NOT a lethal one (like a shotgun). If your TASER® device is used against you, at least you would not get seriously injured and you would not die.

Can I be electrocuted if I use a TASER® device while standing on water?

The answer is no.

Do TASER® devices work all the time?

Nothing in life works all the time. There are no infallible weapons. Even traditional guns (those with bullets) may not work sometimes. Neither does martial arts.

The same goes for TASER® devices. Some factors may intervene in a situation that may decrease the effectiveness of this lawful kind of self-defense (see the following FAQ for details). But this doesn’t stop police officers and civilians from using this protection devices, because they are really effective in most situations.

We recommend owning a pepper spray as well, as an alternative. That way, if one option fails for one reason or another, you still have a back-up plan (please refer to the FAQ about precautions to be taken when using both a TASER® device and a pepper spray, two sections below).

In which situations TASER® devices' effectiveness might decrease?

As we really want you to be safe, we discuss TASER® weapons' shortcomings, along with recommendations for alternative courses of action:

1) TASER® devices might have difficulty penetrating really heavy clothing, like winter coats. Keep in mind, however, that these weapons’ electrical discharge can penetrate up to two cumulative inches of heavy clothing. However, if you find yourself in that situation, just go for any uncovered or light-covered part of the attacker’s body (other than the face). Another alternative is to carry a pepper spray as a “plan B” alternative (refer to the following FAQ section for details on precautions to be taken when using both a TASER and a pepper spray).

2) TASER® devices' effectiveness might decrease in multiple attackers situations. This is true even for traditional (bullet) guns. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to defend yourself in those situations. And the opposite may be true as well: your TASER® weapon may make the difference between life and death in multiple attackers situations. Remember that these non lethal devices double as potent stun guns both before and after the electrodes have been fired, so it is quite possible to defend yourself against more than one attacker. Plus you must take the intimidation factor into account: once the first criminal falls down, the remaining assailants may desist from attacking you.

Multiple attackers encounters might not be the most common event, anyways. Chances are that the most probable situation will be a single person attacking you or a loved one, so carrying a TASER® device is still a necessary preventive measure. It may save your life, or that of your loved one. Avoiding solitary places is a common sense recommendation that may greatly decrease the chances of being attacked by multiple attackers in the first place.

3) As with any weapon, TASER’s effectiveness relies not only on the device itself, but on how well it is used, too (keep in mind that TASER® devices are really easy to use, though). There are no infallible weapons, not just because of the aforementioned factors, but because of human factors as well (for example, don’t forget to check the batteries energy levels from time to time).

TASER® devices are really designed to successfully save lives. They are not lethal and are definitely a much better option than being unprotected. Plus TASERS are less expensive than facing the physical, emotional and economic consequences of becoming a victim.

Must I exercise some precautions if I plan to use both a TASER® device and a pepper spray (as a back-up plan)?

Yes. You should take into account that your TASER® weapon's sparks can ignite flammable liquids (such as alcohol, contained as a carrier in some pepper sprays). This is specially true if: (1) you are using a fogger or forced cone pepper spray (these types disperse the pepper formula through the air instead of delivering it in a stream, increasing the chances of interaction between the pepper spray still in the air and the TASER sparks; see Pepper Spray's FAQ section for details on the different types of pepper sprays); (2) you use your pepper spray indoors (there is no wind to take away the residual spray floating in the air). So NEVER use a TASER® device AFTER spraying a fogger or forced cone pepper spray, at least not in the same area (serious burns may result as the alcohol sprayed in the air reacts with the TASER® unit's sparks).

However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t carry both a TASER® device and a Pepper Spray as part of your self-defense strategic plan. In fact, we do think you should carry both methods of self-protection (as we do). That way, if one option fails for one reason or another, you can still count on the remaining alternative (police officers always carry a “plan B” alternative, and so should you).

To minimize the chances of your TASER® weapon's sparks interacting with your pepper spray’s alcohol carriers, we offer the following recommendations: (1) Use your TASER® unit exclusively as your first alternative, and leave the pepper spray as a troubleshooting solution (there will be no harm if you use the TASER® device and THEN use the pepper spray, because there will be no sparks to interact with the pepper spray by then); (2) Get a gel or foam pepper spray (these types propel the formula in a way that minimizes the chances of leaving residuals floating in the air, thus decreasing the chance of interacting with the TASER® weapon's sparks: that way, if you get nervous under the stress of the situation (which is comprehensible) and mistakenly use the pepper gel or foam first and THEN the TASER® device, there will be an almost inexistent chance of accidental burns).

What special precautions should I take while handling my TASER® device?

First of all, do not attempt to use your TASER® unit without reading it’s accompanying instruction manual first. Always store your weapon in a secure location. Children and other unauthorized persons should not have access to your TASER® device. Remember that these are not toys, but real self-defense weapons. Serious injuries can result if appropriate safety measures are not properly taken.

Always assume that your TASER® weapon is loaded, so don’t point it at someone you don’t intent to hit. Keep your finger away from the trigger unless necessary. Keep body parts (like fingers, for instance) away from the TASER® device cartridge. To avoid accidental discharge, avoid contact between static electricity and the unit's cartridge. Because TASER® device cartridges can be fired by any electrostatic discharge, never carry them in your pockets. TASER® units can ignite explosive liquids (such as gasoline and some pepper sprays’ flammable carriers such as alcohol), as well as explosive materials or vapors (such as gases found in sewer lines), so extreme care should be taken when using your TASER® weapon in close proximity to those elements.

Make the habit of verifying the batteries' energy levels from time to time. Do a spark test once every six months to verify that the TASER® device is working (remove the TASER® unit's cartridge, point the device in a safe direction, take care that none of your body parts are in front of the device, depress the trigger and confirm the rapid sparking across the electrodes for one second, then turn the unit off and place it in a safe location).

Never stare into the beam. Do not attempt demonstrations with yourself, your family or friends. Never use a TASER® device on someone who is not physically attacking you (or threatening to attack you physically). Never practice using an innocent animal as a target neither. Never give it away as a gift or sell it without filling in the registration card or transfer card. Never use it against a law enforcement officer. Protection Nation doesn’t promote these devices for attack purposes, but for lawful self-defense acts exclusively.

How are TASER® devices better than other every day objects used as weapons?

Many people carry with them pens, pencils, keys protruding between their fingers, and umbrellas, among others everyday objects, with hopes that they will serve them as effective self defense weapons. Although these may come in handy when other methods of self defense are not available, they also have less potential of actually stopping an attack in an effective way. Chances are the aggressor may get angry and intensify his attack, after being ineffectively attacked by you.

Pencils and keys (for example) can do a lot of unwanted physical damage, while the possibility of blood transmitted infections (such as hepatitis and AIDS) may increase as wounds are inflicted (remember that some attackers may have substance abuse related problems). The attacker may even take the pencil away from you and use it the same way you used it on him, increasing the risks of leaving you with wounds and scars that may be constant reminders of that traumatic encounter.

Other people opt to carry knives and guns as methods of self defense. Not only can these objects have the potential of being classified as concealed weapons, but the possibility of serious injuries or even death increases for both you and the attacker (as the result of a possible direct contact struggle).

Unlike pencils and knives, TASER® weapons are designed to quickly stop an attacker in a way that is safer for both you and the aggressor, without the aforementioned complications.

Can a TASER® device kill somebody?

Not really. Like previously mentioned, TASER® devices are not lethal weapons. Despite the high voltage electrical discharge TASER® devices provide, they don't have enough amperage to kill someone in normal situations.

However, while some studies have shown that pacemakers are not affected by TASER® devices, other inconclusive data suggests that in some rare occasions, attackers with some heart’s conditions (or other medical problems) might die when the shock is applied. But these are rare instances, and nobody has been able to prove in a conclusive manner that TASER® devices were to blame. For instance, in many cases it hasn’t been clear if excessive police force, combined with a TASER® device, has been the responsible factor. Plus, take into account that just frightening someone with a heart condition might be enough to kill him/her in some cases.

Persons with heart conditions usually don’t become wrongdoers, anyways, so this is not something you should be too concerned about. In the vast majority of cases, attackers are in good health conditions, otherwise they wouldn’t attempt to attack you. Would you doubt using a non-lethal TASER® device against someone who is threatening to kill your daughter, just because he might have a heart condition? Your security must always be your first concern anyways, because the one who might die or be seriously injured is YOU (or your loved one), NOT the attacker.

Plus ANY weapon, used the wrong way, can potentially kill somebody. A baseball bat can kill somebody. A pencil can kill somebody, used to stab your opponent. The examples could go on and on. Many more criminals have died as the result of being attacked by the defender with traditional (bullets) guns, pencils and knives, regardless the presence or absence of medical problems. In the worst case scenario, a TASER® device is a less lethal and more reliable way of protecting your life and that of your loved ones.

In fact, TASER® weapons have been tested on thousands of police officers and voluntary citizens, without arousing any serious health complications (if TASER® weapons were lethal weapons, police officers wouldn’t consent to participate in these trials, would they?). Chances are you have already seen demonstrations on TV where these devices have been applied to voluntary individuals, with the aforementioned results. However, you must remember that police officers are professionals, and they have taken all the necessary precautions during these experiments, so please, do not try it at home. TASER® devices are not toys, but serious self-defense weapons.

In fact, secondary injuries can result for the assailant, but those injuries are not directly attributable to these non lethal weapons electric stimulation. For instance, the criminal may fall to the ground after receiving the electrical shock, and may suffer impact injuries, bruises, cuts and abrasions. Additionally, as a result of muscles contractions the attacker may suffer muscles or tendon tears, as well as stress fractures. But these effects may also result from using any other form of self-defense. For example, a criminal may fall to the ground and suffer impact injuries after the defender applies a successful karate technique. Or he may suffer injuries after being attacked by a the defender with a baseball bat. A traditional (bullets) gun may even kill the assailant, which is must worse. TASER® devices are more effective and secure self-defense weapons when compared with all of the above. Plus remember: it was the attacker who put your life and well-being in danger in the first place, and it’s not logical to let him harm you (or a loved one) just to protect him (the criminal) from falling down and suffering some fractures.

How do firearms compare to TASER® devices’ effectiveness?

The remaining alternative to a TASER® device would be to get a lethal weapon, like a firearms (after getting the appropriate legal permits, of course). But even shooting a criminal doesn’t always stop the attack immediately in all cases, as even a wounded assailant can still be dangerous for some time afterwards. Moreover, TASER® weapons have proven to have a higher instant incapacitation rate than a 9mm hand gun, according to police studies.

Additionally, many citizens consider firearms dangerous objects to have around the house, specially if they have kids (whose curiosity and astuteness have taken some of them to break the security created by their parents, gaining access to such lethal devices). Moreover, the risks of serious injury or death increase for innocent bystanders if you miss your target (remember that bystanders may be members of your own family). Plus, just owning a gun can actually get you killed: according to the latest FBI statistics, over 95% of CIVILIANS who get shot, GET SHOT with their OWN GUN!! We have nothing against firearms, but as a family oriented company we personally prefer non-lethal alternatives, respecting other’s opinions.

Are TASER® devices legal?

TASER® devices are popular with ordinary citizens because they are small, compact, easy-to-use, and legal in most areas. Hundred of thousands of men and women are currently using TASER® units as part of an overall plan of effective self protection.

The civilian version of the TASER® device, for example, was approved for sale as a “non-firearm” by the BATF in June 1994.

But, as with every rule, there are some exceptions. TASER® weapons are not legal in a small number of states and cities. Please refer to our “Products Policy” and our “Stun Guns Laws” sections for details.

Again, always remember that it is your responsibility to use your TASER® device in a responsible and legal manner, exclusively for self defense purposes. TASER® weapons are not toys.
